“The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 6:23

The word “Gospel” means “good news” and is the good news of the salvation that is available because of who Jesus is and what He did.

According to the Bible all of humanity has disobeyed our creator and rebelled against the one and only God. This disobedience is called “sin,” and all of us are sinful not only in our actions, but in our thoughts and desires. God is completely pure, holy, and just, and therefore every sinful person deserves eternal death as punishment for rebelling against God. No one can do enough good to erase their sin, and no one can work their way back to having a relationship with God.

But God is also a God of mercy, grace, and love; and He sent his Son Jesus Christ to earth to make a way of salvation. Jesus was fully God and fully man and He lived a perfect life on earth. He was executed by wicked men who hung Him on a cross, but when He died he took upon Himself every sin of every person who would ever believe in Him and He suffered in their place; Jesus died to pay for their sins. He was buried and then rose from the dead, and offers eternal salvation, forgiveness of sins, and transformation to anyone who will repent and trust in Him alone as their Savior and Lord.

The “Gospel” is the good news of Jesus Christ.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,  that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.”

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
